Becoming a candidate for the 2024 Council elections is an exciting opportunity to work with other dedicated community members and advocates to help set our organisation’s strategic direction and make decisions that can affect change in the City of Port Phillip.

Tuesday 17 September | Lodgment of candidate statements, photographs, and questionnaires close of at 12 midday |
Wednesday 18 September | Draw for ballot paper order begins at 10 am |
Monday 7 to Thursday 10 October | Mail-out of ballot packs / uncontested ward leaflets |
Friday 25 October | Close of voting at 6 pm |
Saturday 26 October | Election Day (note the election is entirely conducted by postal ballot). |
Wednesday 13 November (TBC) | Elected candidates sworn into office. |
What is a typical month of a Councillor like?
The role of a Councillor at the City of Port Phillip is a busy one.
While not a full-time job, you can expect to spend a significant amount of time performing the duties of a Councillor.
A typical month includes:
- attending Council Meetings twice a month, usually from 6.30 pm
- attending Councillor briefings four times a month, usually from 5 pm
- attending Planning Committee Meeting once a month, usually from 6.30 pm
- reading Council Meeting and briefing documents
- serving on Council’s advisory committees
- meeting fellow Councillors weekly during business hours to collaborate on issues
- attending external events and meeting with community members
