We’re celebrating our LGBTIQA+ community during Midsumma
City of Port Phillip is one of the major funding supporters for Midsumma Festival. Midsumma is Australia's premier queer arts and cultural organisation, bringing together a diverse mix of LGBTQI+ artists, performers, communities and audiences. We have been the major partner for their Pride March since its creation 29 years ago and every year thousands of community members and visitors march through our streets in St Kilda to celebrate the LGBTIQA+ community.
In the traditional curtain-raiser to the Pride March, the progress pride flag will be raised over St Kilda Town Hall in a flag-raising ceremony to demonstrate the Council’s commitment for Port Phillip to be an inclusive City for all members of the community.
The ceremony is at 3 pm on Tuesday 28 January on the front lawn of St Kilda Town Hall. Everyone is welcome to attend!
Port Phillip is also the location of the iconic Midsumma Pride March, held this year on Sunday 2 February. This iconic march celebrating solidarity in gender and sexuality diversity, and see’s over 53,000 people parade down Fitzroy Street, St Kilda to honour all gender expressions, sexualities and experiences. The march starts at 11 am, so make sure to get down early and secure a great spot to view all the excitement.
