Why are we doing this?
During COVID-19 lockdowns, community members built a BMX track in their local park at RF Julier Reserve, Port Melbourne. Unfortunately, safety issues meant the makeshift track could not remain open. As a result, Council committed to investigating opportunities for a purpose-built facility to ensure bike riders and lovers of other wheeled sports all have the opportunity to play safely in their local area. The Pump Track Development has been funded for design this financial year, with the project due to commence construction on 24 June 2024 and be completed in early August 2024.
The impact
A pump track is an asphalt bike track with bumps and jumps to create momentum without the need for pedalling.
Our specialist designer has developed the plan that includes 105 metres of riding length and features for all skill levels and user groups to enjoy, including berms, rollers and jumps.
We expect that there may be some temporary impacts on the adjacent footpath and the road while works are underway. Traffic management, fencing and bollards will be used to help identify which areas will be off-limits. Due to the nature of the proposed works, some dust and noise are also expected.
Objectives
The Pump Track is a community facility for people of all ages and abilities to enjoy.
