Sol Green Reserve park and Play Space Upgrade

We're committed to providing our local community with greater access to safe and accessible playgrounds and public open space. That's why we're upgrading the Sol Green Reserve park and play space to cater for increased usage for the whole community.

Location

South Melbourne.

Cost

$1.1M

Milestones

Why are we doing this?

This is a short-term action identified in Council’s Places for People: Public Space Strategy 2022 – 2032 (Action: ‘improve integration of play area into landscape including cognitive and creative play elements.’)

A safety audit also identified that the play equipment at Sol Green Reserve is near the end of its lifespan. We have taken this opportunity to explore other ways to improve the park and strengthen its role as a community space that responds to local needs.

The impact

The playground and surrounding area will be inaccessible during the construction of the new playground.

Objectives

The park upgrades will include:

  • Relocation of the playground to improve access and safety, and the addition of a flying fox, play tower unit, swings (including a basket swing), trampoline, rockers and an accessible spinner
  • A larger basketball court area
  • Additional seating throughout the reserve
  • Improved garden bed and tree planting
  • Improved path connections for better access throughout the reserve
  • Upgraded lighting throughout the reserve.

Community Consultation

Community consultation was undertaken on the project in May/June 2023. Refer to our Have Your Say page for further details: Sol Green Reserve park and play space upgrade, South Melbourne | Have Your Say Port Phillip
