Location

Kerferd Rd Median North and South, and Kerferd Rd Foreshore Forecourt

Cost

Fully funded by Victorian Government.

Milestones

Why are we doing this?

The Victorian Government has now finalised and approved the Shrine to Sea Masterplan. Additional information on the project can be found here: Shrine to Sea (environment.vic.gov.au)

Council will now complete detailed design, planning approvals and project delivery.

The impact

There will be impacts during construction. Works will be undertaken outside of the summer period to minimise impact on the community.

Objectives

The Shrine to Sea Masterplan will link the Domain Gardens to Port Phillip Bay by:

  • a series of enhanced green boulevards,
  • safe and clear links and connections for walking and cycling,
  • providing an opportunity to celebrate local stories and wayfinding, and
  • improve the usable open space on the existing medians.
  • improve the experience of residents and visitors through engaging experiences.
  • while the road name will remain unchanged, the boulevard will adopt a new name of
‘Yannawatpanhanna’, meaning ‘go to water’ in the Boon Wurrung language of the Bunurong
people for use in interpretation. Aboriginal culture is an overarching theme of the project.

About The Project

Council will undertake the project management, securing of relevant planning permits, procurement, and construction of the project within the available budget, including:

Kerferd Rd Median & Foreshore Work: Works to Kerferd Rd Median North and South, and Kerferd Rd Foreshore Forecourt.
Interpretation works: for Interpretation and Wayfinding throughout the boulevard.
