Hewison Reserve Upgrade

We're committed to providing our local community with greater access to safe and accessible playgrounds and public open space. That's why we're upgrading the Hewison Reserve to cater for increased usage for the whole community.
Hewison Reserve is accessible by paved paths and has seating, a playground, mature trees and grassy areas

Location

351 Inkerman Street, St Kilda East VIC 3183

Cost

This project has a budget of $400,000.

Milestones

Why are we doing this?

In Council’s most recent annual Playground Safety Audit, the play space in Hewison Reserve was ranked 19 out of 60 play spaces requiring upgrades, making it a priority for redevelopment.

The opportunity to upgrade the BBQ are to an accessible offering has been included in the project. Including impact attenuating rubber soft-fall within the new playground design, the play space and park will be transformed to a more inclusive facility catering for people across a wide range of ages and abilities.

The impact

The playground and surrounding BBQ area will be inaccessible during the construction of the new playground.

Objectives

The park upgrades will include:

  • construction of a new play space, including impact attenuating rubber softfall allowing for improved accessibility to play equipment
  • new play equipment, sourced from sustainable locally grown Australian timber
  • extending the existing natural play area
  • upgrades to the BBQ area, including an Accessible BBQ and additional accessible picnic tables.
