Safety upgrades for Acland Plaza

We’re installing new bollards along Acland Street Plaza to provide better protection for pedestrians, outdoor diners and businesses.

Why are we doing this?

We’re improving safety along the southern end of the Acland Street precinct by installing bollards as physical barriers.

The bollards will safeguard Acland Plaza against traffic and hostile vehicles providing greater protection to pedestrians, outdoor diners and businesses on Acland Street.

The impact

The Acland Street shopping precinct will remain open and pedestrian access via Barkly Street will be maintained throughout the duration of works.

Barkly Street will remain open to vehicles throughout the construction period with traffic management conditions in place and speed limit restrictions in the surrounding area to ensure works can be undertaken safely.

Timeline of works

Works will begin on 22 July 2024 with completion expected by 30 August 2024.

Objectives

The project will see 23 bollards installed with surrounding works including new paving, the re-alignment of street furniture and greening works.

Acland Plaza will maintain accessibility for authorised events, maintenance, street cleaning and emergency service vehicles via Barkly Street following the completion of the project.
