What a feeling! Jam-packed program for 2024 City of Port Phillip Seniors Festival

Published 10 September 2024
A record number of diverse events and activities will be showcased at the 2024 City of Port Phillip Seniors Festival from 1 to 14 October.

The biggest and most inclusive program yet features 43 Council and community-led events and activities across Port Phillip.

This annual event celebrates the lives of people aged 55+ and promotes positive ageing.

Events include the 80s tribute Show, 80s Enuff!, on Saturday 5 October at the Middle Park Bowls Club. Combining 80s fashion and original 80s instruments with raw energy and humour, they’ll transport you back to the era of big hair, shoulder pads and synth beats.

Put down that Rubik’s Cube, pull up your acid wash jeans and leg warmers and get down to the ‘greaties from the eighties’ including What’s Love Got to do With It and What a Feeling. There will be prizes for best dressed 80s style.

The Port Phillip Library Service has produced 11 events including Smart Phone Stories Workshops for Seniors, a Seniors Writing Panel and a Multicultural Seniors Showcase series of pop-up performances in library branches.

On Tuesday 8 October the Victorian Pride Centre presents An Afternoon with Friends of Dorothy. This event, celebrating older LGBTIQA+ community members, features interactive activities, pop-up stalls, free cake and coffee and a private tour of the Centre.

The Festival also includes a University of the Third Age Port Phillip arts showcase, performances and a seminar, croquet, community gardening, a First Nations artist led art workshop, bowling, live music, discussions, film screenings and joyful celebrations of culture with amazing food, music, videos and dancing presented by several cherished cultural groups.

The Port Phillip Writes Awards Ceremony on Monday 14 October at St Kilda Town Hall marks the official close of the Festival.

Each year, Council conducts a Seniors Festival Grants program to support local services and community groups to run events.

“This year there are 22 Council funded events with total of $16,000 allocated to events throughout our City to celebrate Seniors Festival,” Mayor Heather Cunsolo said.

“There really is something for everyone to enjoy at this annual celebration which recognises the valuable contributions our older residents make for our community.”

Bookings are essential for most events. For more information, call 9209 6777 or go to the full program.
