    Do you want to have a role in shaping the future of City of Port Phillip? Are you passionate about making a positive contribution to your community?  Then now is the time to put your hand up to take on one of the most important leadership opportunities in Australia that enables you to make a difference. 

    Committed, motivated and passionate people that reflect the diversity of our community are encouraged to put their hand up for election to Council in City of Port Phillip.    

    Get inspired through the Municipal Association of Victoria’s (MAV) Stand for Council campaign

    To support potential candidates, City of Port Phillip, in partnership with the MAV, is hosting regional-based information sessions to provide answers to frequently asked questions, conversations with Council CEO’s and help potential candidates understand what the work of a Councillor looks like day to day.    

    Date and time: Wednesday 31 July, 6 pm to 9 pm 

    Location: St Kilda Town Hall auditorium or online

    The MAV will also be providing a Citizen to Councillor Guide 2024 – a guide for prospective candidates to further understand the roles and responsibilities of a councillor and the importance of this elected position.

    Candidate information

    If you are considering running for Council, it’s a great idea to read through the Victorian Electoral Commission (VEC) candidate page to familiarize yourself with key roles and responsibilities of nominating for council elections.  

    Candidate Training Sessions 

    Under the Local Government Act 2020, all candidates for election must attend a candidate training session prior to nominating. If you do not attend a training session, you will not be eligible to nominate. 

    The Victorian Government provides this compulsory training for all Victorians who wish to nominate as a candidate in any council elections. For further information on candidate training, please visit Local Government Victoria.
