Learn more about the newly upgraded online database that houses the Port Phillip City Collection.

We have launched a new and improved Port Phillip City Collection database, which allows anyone to access elements of our City’s art and heritage collections at the touch of a button.

The decision to upgrade the system was made to improve the overall design and functionality of the site to give the user the best experience possible.

The new database features the following improved functions:

  • Search – which allows you to easily search the entire collection using keywords. You can find the search bar on the homepage.
  • Browse – which allows you to browse some of the categories within the collection including Fine Art, First People’s Art and Historic Photography.
  • Highlights – which allows you to dive deeper into a range of curated stories highlighting people, places and items featured within the collection. Different stories will be featured here on an ongoing basis, so make sure to keep checking back.
  • A to Z – (coming soon) – which allows you to search the collection by letter and is a great way to explore and discover new parts of the collection.

The process of building a new collection management system and website takes time, so we will be working to complete this work in the coming weeks. Additionally, we’re always looking for opportunities to grow and present the collection in new ways. So, we recommend checking back regularly so you don’t miss any important updates or new additions.

There’s no better time than the present to start exploring our new collection’s database. Visit our Port Phillip City Collection webpage to get access.

If you have any questions about the new system or if you require any additional assistance using the site, please contact our friendly Art and Heritage team at artheritage@portphillip.vic.gov.au.
