Summer is upon us and so are the summertime restrictions, here’s what you need to know.

Our foreshore and parks continue to be some of the most popular summer destinations in Victoria. To manage the influx of visitors, there are a range of annual summer restrictions that run from 1 November to 31 March. These restrictions help us keep our community safe and provide a coordinated response to minimise anti-social behaviour and the negative impacts of large crowds.

It’s important for you to know when and where restrictions apply so that you can play your part in keeping our foreshore safe, clean and fun for everyone and avoid incurring any penalties that may dampen the summer fun.

Summer restrictions include:

  • Alcohol bans – We have a range of alcohol bans in place across our City. Apart from the year-round alcohol bans, we also have St Kilda foreshore (1 November to 31 March), public holiday and event-specific bans. We will be supporting Victoria Police to enforce these bans.
  • Glass ban – We have a year-round glass ban, which means glass of any kind is not allowed along our foreshore without a permit.
  • Dog restrictions – Dog off-leash areas change between 1 November and 31 March, especially on our beaches. There are also restrictions against letting dogs wander at large and not picking up after them.
  • No camping – Camping is not allowed on any Council land or public space, in any vehicle, tent, caravan or any other form of temporary accommodation.

Please note: Non-compliance can result in the confiscation of any prohibited items and fines of between $198 and $395.

Apart from the restrictions, we also ask that you dispose of rubbish responsibly and be weather and water smart when you’re enjoying our public spaces.

It is also important to note that e-scooter usage is now legal across Victoria and the related road use rules will be enforced by Victoria Police and hefty fines will apply.

Don’t worry, it’s not all rules and restrictions this summer. There are some amazing activities and events coming too. Make sure you check our What’s On page and follow us on social media to stay up to date on all the latest events. You might also want to mark the 15 and 16 February 2025 on your calendar because the St Kilda Festival will be offering an epic weekend of programming.
