Council Welcomes Federal Funding Commitments for Adass Israel Synagogue

City of Port Phillip welcomes the funding commitments to rebuild Adass Israel Synagogue from both the federal government and the opposition.

The City of Port Phillip is pleased to see the recent bipartisan funding commitments from both the federal government and the opposition for the Adass Israel Synagogue. This significant support underscores the importance of preserving our community's cultural and religious richness.

The exceptional funding will ensure that the Adass Israel Synagogue and community centre in Ripponlea, Victoria, undergo comprehensive reconstruction. These funds will guarantee that the synagogue continues to serve as a safe and welcoming place for worship and community activities. As a cornerstone of our local Jewish community, the synagogue plays an indispensable role in fostering spiritual growth, cultural celebration, and communal support.

Council remains committed to fostering a safe and inclusive community. We will continue to collaborate with federal and state governments, as well as the community, to support social cohesion, resilience, and community programs that reflect the diverse needs of the City of Port Phillip. The Adass Israel Synagogue has long been a beacon of faith and community spirit.

These commitments further build on Council's Notice of Motion which reaffirms its commitment to a safe, liveable and just community in December 2024, with specific actions to address these issues.
