Acland Court Australia Post parcel locker installation

Following the closure of the St Kilda South Post Office, our community came together to advocate for continued postal services in St Kilda. In response, Council undertook a range of advocacy activities to highlight the significance of the closure including writing to Australia Post and the Minister for Communications, as well as the release of a joint statement with the Acland Street Village Business Association and the Older Persons Advisory Committee. This was a strong advocacy item, where Council was aligned with State and Federal governments, as well as community.
In recognition of the community’s needs, we successfully negotiated with Australia Post to install new parcel lockers at Acland Court. Although these lockers will not completely replace the services provided by the Post Office, they will help mitigate some of the inconveniences caused by its closure. The parcel lockers will offer a convenient, secure, and flexible option for parcel collection, fitting seamlessly into the busy schedules of our residents.
Following community consultation, council has now installed a dedicated mail zone parking bay outside Acland Court to complement the lockers, allowing easy access for Australia Post staff.
On Tuesday 17 December, the Mayor and Cr Thomann attended Acland Court along with Josh Burns MP and David Fried, owner of Acland Court to officially announce the installation of the new parcel lockers.
The lockers have since been installed and are now successfully utilised by businesses and community.
We look forward to continuing our partnership with Australia Post and exploring more ways to enhance services and infrastructure in our community.
